Rule 19.2: Unplayable Ball Outside Penalty Area
A player may declare a ball unplayable anywhere on the course, except in a penalty area, and take one of these three options, adding one penalty stroke:

- Stroke-and-Distance (19.2a): Play a ball from where the previous stroke was made.
- Back-on-the-Line (19.2b): Drop a ball behind the spot of the original ball, keeping that spot directly between the hole and the spot where the ball is dropped.
- Lateral Relief (19.2c): Drop a ball within two club-lengths of the spot of the original ball, no closer to the hole.
Rule 19.3: Unplayable Ball in Bunker
If the unplayable ball is in a bunker, the player has the same three options (19.3a) with one penalty stroke, but must drop the ball inside the bunker.
