Definitions
“Exact Handicap” states an exact number (e.g. 15.9) & represents a member’s exact handicap.
“Playing Handicap” is the Exact Handicap rounded to the nearest whole number (0.5 is rounded upwards for an 18 hole event, downwards for a 9 hole event) & represents the members playing handicap for the day’s competition.

 

1               All members
1.1 All members of the society shall have their handicap maintained by the committee in accordance with the rules laid out in these handicapping rules.
1.2 The maximum handicap any members shall play to is 36.0

 

2               New members
2.1 All new members of the society shall have a starting handicap allocated to them by the committee.
2.2 The handicap allocated to a new member shall reflect their stableford scoring ability.
2.3 The committee retains the right to alter freely the starting handicap for the first two events the member enters.
2.4   The handicap given to the member on his third event outing shall be his “Exact Handicap” and subject to the handicapping rules as regard changes to it.

 

3              Members exact handicap
3.1   Member’s Exact Handicaps shall be altered using the handicap adjustment tables as a result of events played. (see separate sheet)
3.2 Member’s Exact handicaps can only be reviewed & changed by the committee if:
  1. a) Three members, who are not members of the committee, have asked the committee to review a members handicap,
  2. b) The member has asked the committee to review his handicap,
  3. c) If a member fails to play in five consecutive tournaments the committee have the right to amend the handicap for the next & subsequent events in which the member plays.
4               Tournaments
4.1 A member’s handicap cannot be changed during a 36 hole event but each round played in such an event shall be used to adjust the handicap following the completion of the event.
4.2 Handicaps, at the discretion of the committee, within the context of these rules, can be adjusted as a result of the Masters tournament.
4.3 The handicaps which members finish on at the end of a season will be brought forward to the start of the next season except as the handicapping rules allow in rule 3.2 & 5.1.

 

5               Changing handicaps in disciplinary cases
5.1 The committee reserves the right to change handicaps in disciplinary cases.
